We had earlier reported that Superstar Rajinikanth would be going to Sri Lanka on the 9th of April for the Gnanam Foundations 150 Houses opening ceremony. Raju Mahalingam, of Lyca Productions, also confirmed the same in his Twitter handle.

But the latest official statement from Rajinikanth has come, stating that he would not be attending the ceremony. His statement read, "I was supposed to go to Sri Lanka, for the house opening ceremony, and apart from that I also planned to meet the Sri Lankan President, Mr. Maithripala Sirisena, and talk to him about the inhumanely killings of Tamil Nadu fishermen.

However, Mr. Thol Thirumavalavan, Mr. Vaiko and Mr.Velmurugan, through various means, requested me not to go there and attend the function, based on few political reasons. Though their reasons weren't convincing, I accept their humble request and decided not to attend the function in Sri Lanka.

I again want to remind, that I am an actor, not a politician. My main job is to make people happy and entertain through my films. In the future, if I get a chance to visit Sri Lanka for meeting our people, I request you all, not to make politics out of it and stop me again from visiting the country. Jai Hind"
