Mersal, directed by Atlee, and starring Thalapathy Vijay, has now gained a nation-wide popularity due to its bold dialogues about the current issues concerning GST and Digital money. There is a particular scene in the film in which Vijay addresses these issues through an intense dialogue. Politicians found this to be offensive, and they have condemned the makers, asking them to remove the sensitive dialogues from the film.

Following this, various politicians, actors, and commoners have taken their stance, proposing and opposing the issue. Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, and former Minister for Finance P Chidambaram has made his comments through his Twitter handle. He put up consecutive sarcastic tweets against the BJP government.

His Tweets read, "BJP demands deletion of dialogues in 'Mersal.' Imagine the consequences if 'Parasakthi' was released today.", and "Notice to film makers: Law is coming, you can only make documentaries praising government's policies."

These comments, along with many other tweets and statements, are being widely discussed on social media, and national television. A decision on whether scenes will be cut out, or not, is yet to be taken.
