Vishu is one of Kerala's big festive seasons when big movies release collectively. In earlier years Mohanlal and Mammootty have had incredible success during Vishu season even when they released their films simultaneously. Dileep, Jayaram, Suresh Gopi and even next generation heroes including Prithviraj, Fahadh Faasil, Nivin Pauly and Dulquer have all made the most out of this festive season that coincides with school vacation.

This year's season began with Mohanlal's war drama "1971 Beyond Borders" which released on April 7th. At that time, Megastar Mammootty's "The Great Father" which released on March 30th was running very successfully in theaters. According to the producers of the film "The Great Father" is still continuing its dream run at the Box Office despite the releasing of a celebrated Mohanlal film.

Renowned director Ranjith's Mammootty film "Puthen Panam" is literally the most awaited film of the year. The teasers of the film have raised the excitement and expectations exponentially. The film in which Mammootty will be seen using a Kasargod dialect, is to release on April 12th. It will be followed by Jayaram's "Satya" and Nivin Pauly's "Sakhavu" on 14th and 15th respectively. Even though there are many big releases, it looks like the competition for the top slot will be between Mammootty's "The Great Father" and "Puthen Panam".
